About Rotary International

The World's largest Foundation, is the ROTARY FOUNDATION,USA engaged in many community development programs world over. Founded in the year 1905 by Rtn Paul Percy Harris with five members in Chicago, Rotary is now 100 years Old, with a combined membership of 12 lakh Rotarians in 178 countries, in about 500 Rotary Districts.

The Notable project of Rotary in the past is the POLIO eradication efforts, for which we have spent more than US $ 500 Million, and now the irus is under near extinction.

The above mentioned polio program is only a part of Rotary's community Service Projects, Rotarians, worldwide are engaged in many community projects.

Club Profile
In this ever-expanding and ever-changing Universe, Rotary also has to expand, and extend its influence to every nook and corner of the world. Such extension would automatically result in the growth of more and more new Clubs with more new, energetic, and enthusiastic Rotarians.

In January, 1973, the Coimbatore Rotary Club decided to sponsor one more Rotary Club in the fast-growing city of Coimbatore besides the already-existent Coimbatore West Rotary Club, and the preliminary meeting was held on the 18th. under the Chairmanship of Rtn. Past President Major N.Krishnaswamy, who was the Governor’s Special Representative, with eight Rotarians from the Coimbatore Rotary Club, who resolved to name the new Club the “Coimbatore Mid-Town Rotary Club”.

The Office-Bearers were: Rtn. P.Jagadeesan (now PDG) – President, Rtn. Dr. C.Arumugam – Vice President, Rtn. Suresh Gokuldas – Secretary, Rtn. Lakshminarayan Hariachar – Treasurer, and Rtn. C.P.Natarajan, Rtn. M.Palaniswamy, Rtn. S.S.S.Mohamed Hanif , and Rtn. S.Ranganathan – Directors of the Four Avenues of Service.

The Installation was held on the 31st. of January, 1973, with the Chief Guest being Rtn. PDG. T.R.S.Ramanatha Iyer, under the Governorship of Rtn. Dr. S.Sundaram, with Rtn. Dr. C.V.Ramraj as the GGR, and the Club Charter bearing number 15843 was received from Rotary International on the 2nd. of May, 1973.

From such humble beginnings, the Club has now grown to a strength of 64 active Members, besides taking on the new name "Rotary Club of Coimbatore Mid Town", as directed by Rotary International, and has touched the lives of millions of people, not only in the city of Coimbatore, but all over the world, especially in the Phillipines and in Sri Lanka, where projects like Artificial Limb Camps and Bore-well sinking, have been conducted under the aegis of our Club.

Service to Mankind is Service to God” has always been the motivating factor behind all the major and minor projects of the Club, and Rotarians take pride in calling themselves Members of this prestigious Club in Rotary International District 3200.
